Optifood company was successful with the Circular Invest programme readiness support after they applied to the first Circular Invest call in June 2023. Optifood plans to scale up a digital marketplace that allows access food to be sold before the expiration deadline, by developing a digital tool that enables to connect supply and demand of surpluse food. Their digital platform addresses a huge problem in Europe of surplus and discarded food as an estimated 170 Million tons of food were wasted in 2022 the value of more than 200 billion eur. Food waste pollutes the environment more than any other waste (methane, CO2, plastic waste, water waste, energy waste, biodiversity, landfill, animals, fertilizers, chemicals, etc.) as 80% of surplus food is never sold and will become food waste.
Their winning project addresses optimization of the business model, where to sell surplus food and how to upscale sales of surplus food.
Optifood’s CEO Marko Mitrović said: «We look forward to seeing accelerated growth with the help of all services recieved through the Circular invest instrument. We look forward to a kick-off session for launching the services’ delivery«.
